The mismanagement of inorganic waste leads to urban pollution, health hazards, and expanding landfills, presenting both an environmental challenge and a business opportunity. Our solution leverages a public-private partnership model to manage inorganic waste while catering to the demands of two industries: waste-to-energy and recycling. We propose a value chain that ensures early and effective segregation, enabling uncontaminated waste streams suitable for industry-specific processing.

Description

Our approach introduces three levels of segregation within the supply chain:

At the source – Encouraging behavioral change by promoting proper storage of waste instead of indiscriminate disposal. A QR-based IoT system reinforces this by incentivizing households for correct waste separation and penalizing non-compliance.

In transit – Segregation through a product enhances sorting.

At the Resource Recovery Centre (RRC) – A final stage of segregation ensures classification for industry requirements.

  • Recyclers receive type-specific plastics, while waste-to-energy plants receive dried waste for fuel conversion. In return, these industries pay a service charge, making the model economically sustainable. Our approach integrates smart technology, circular economy principles, and an organized waste management system to transform waste into a resource.
